SUMMARY:YPN Community Connections Tour: Sioux Falls Month - Carnegie Town Hall
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn May\, we’re going behind the scenes at the places that have shaped Sioux Falls. This week\, we’re touring Carnegie Town Hall—one of downtown’s most historic buildings. \nIn 1901\, through the efforts of Senator R.F. Pettigrew\, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie offered the City of Sioux Falls $25\,000 to build a free public library. City leaders selected the prominent corner of Tenth Street and Dakota Avenue\, choosing a site that was central\, highly visible\, and safely above the floodplain. The building was constructed from locally quarried rose quartzite\, giving it the distinctive look it still carries today. \nThe Carnegie Library opened in 1903 and served the community for nearly 70 years before a new library was built in 1972. The building later housed the Civic Fine Arts Association and eventually became what we now know as Carnegie Town Hall. Today\, it is home to the Sioux Falls City Council Chambers\, along with the City Clerk’s and Community Development offices. \nJoin us to explore this landmark\, learn about its evolution\, and see how a building that started as a library continues to play an important role in local government. \nRegistration is required\, and space is limited to the first 25 participants. If you register\, please plan to attend and mark your calendar. \nWe are committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all event attendees. If you require any accommodations\, please reach out to Jaci Pieters at jpieters@siouxfalls.com. We will make every effort to meet your needs.

SUMMARY:YPN Community Connections Tour: Sioux Falls Month - Water Reclamation Facility
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn May\, we’re going behind the scenes at the places that keep Sioux Falls running. This week\, we’re touring the City’s Water Reclamation Facility. \nBuilt between 1980 and 1986\, the facility was designed with long-term capacity in mind. It treats domestic\, industrial\, and commercial wastewater using a multi-step process that removes nearly 99 percent of pollutants before clean water is returned to the Big Sioux River. On average\, staff remove close to 32\,000 pounds of organic material each day. \nThe plant can treat up to 21 million gallons of wastewater daily\, with the ability to handle even higher peak flows. While stormwater is carried through a separate system\, heavy rain can still impact flows due to infiltration into older pipes. The City has invested significantly in infrastructure improvements to reduce this issue and preserve capacity for future growth.

SUMMARY:YPN Community Connections Tour: Sioux Falls Month - Water Purification Plant
DESCRIPTION:In May\, we’re going behind the scenes at the places that keep Sioux Falls running. This week\, we’re touring the City’s Water Purification Plant. \nThis facility plays a critical role in delivering safe\, reliable drinking water to our growing community. Recent upgrades\, including the addition of five new filters\, have increased filtration capacity to 75 million gallons per day. Alongside the $215 million expansion of the Water Reclamation Facility\, the system is built to support both current demand and future growth. \nThe plant operates around the clock\, with continuous monitoring to ensure quality and safety.  \nRegistration is required\, and space is limited to the first 20 participants. If you register\, please plan to attend and mark your calendar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all event attendees.
