In May, we’re getting a behind-the-scenes look at the places that help keep Sioux Falls running. This week, we’re touring the Public Safety Campus. This 42-acre, $55 million facility serves as a central hub for law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency services. Designed with safety, innovation, and growth in mind, the campus brings multiple departments together under one roof to better serve our community. During the tour, you’ll see the state-of-the-art training spaces where officers and firefighters prepare for real-world situations through hands-on, scenario-based learning. It’s a unique opportunity to learn how our public safety teams train, collaborate, and plan for the future. Registration is required, and space is limited to the first 25 participants. If you register, please plan to attend and mark your calendar. We are committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all event attendees. If you require any accommodations, please reach out to Jaci Pieters at jpieters@siouxfalls.com. We will make every effort to meet your needs.

In May, we’re going behind the scenes at the places that have shaped Sioux Falls. This week, we’re touring Carnegie Town Hall—one of downtown’s most historic buildings. In 1901, through the efforts of Senator R.F. Pettigrew, philanthropist Andrew Carnegie offered the City of Sioux Falls $25,000 to build a free public library. City leaders selected the prominent corner of Tenth Street and Dakota Avenue, choosing a site that was central, highly visible, and safely above the floodplain. The building was constructed from locally quarried rose quartzite, giving it the distinctive look it still carries today. The Carnegie Library opened in 1903 and served the community for nearly 70 years before a new library was built in 1972. The building later housed the Civic Fine Arts Association and eventually became what we now know as Carnegie Town Hall. Today, it is home to the Sioux Falls City Council Chambers, along with the City Clerk’s and Community Development offices. Join us to explore this landmark, learn about its evolution, and see how a building that started as a library continues to play an important role in local government. In May, we’re going behind the scenes at the places that keep Sioux Falls running. This week, we’re touring the City’s Water Reclamation Facility. Built between 1980 and 1986, the facility was designed with long-term capacity in mind. It treats domestic, industrial, and commercial wastewater using a multi-step process that removes nearly 99 percent of pollutants before clean water is returned to the Big Sioux River. On average, staff remove close to 32,000 pounds of organic material each day. The plant can treat up to 21 million gallons of wastewater daily, with the ability to handle even higher peak flows. While stormwater is carried through a separate system, heavy rain can still impact flows due to infiltration into older pipes. The City has invested significantly in infrastructure improvements to reduce this issue and preserve capacity for future growth.

Join us for a conversation with the Chamber’s Public Policy team as they break down the measures on the upcoming ballot. They’ll walk through what each item means, why it matters to our community, and what you should know before heading to the polls. This is a great opportunity to ask questions, gain clarity, and feel confident making informed decisions on Election Day. Whether you’re a regular voter or just getting started, you’ll leave with a better understanding of the issues at hand. Please note: Registration is required, and space is limited to the first 40 attendees. You will need to click “Login” on the top right to register for the event. Click “Forgot Password” to set up a password (make sure you use the email address associated with the Chamber). After that you should then be able to register. We are committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all event attendees. If you require any accommodations, please reach out to Jaci Pieters at jpieters@siouxfalls.com. In May, we’re going behind the scenes at the places that keep Sioux Falls running. This week, we’re touring the City’s Water Purification Plant. This facility plays a critical role in delivering safe, reliable drinking water to our growing community. Recent upgrades, including the addition of five new filters, have increased filtration capacity to 75 million gallons per day. Alongside the $215 million expansion of the Water Reclamation Facility, the system is built to support both current demand and future growth. The plant operates around the clock, with continuous monitoring to ensure quality and safety. Registration is required, and space is limited to the first 20 participants. If you register, please plan to attend and mark your calendar. We are committed to providing a welcoming and accessible experience for all event attendees. If you require any accommodations, please reach out to Jaci Pieters at jpieters@siouxfalls.com. We will make every effort to meet your needs.
